How to Apply
Dates & Deadlines
Nashville Teaching Fellows are outstanding individuals like you – recent graduates, engineers, management executives, community leaders, and retirees - who have decided to change their lives and teach in the classrooms that need high-quality educators most. Apply today to be considered for this selective network of dedicated new teachers.
Application Deadline
Because of the competitive nature of the program and the limited number of spaces, we recommend that candidates apply early. We will begin accepting applications for the 2011 cohort on October 6, 2010.
Praxis II Exam
Nashville Teaching Fellows meet NCLB highly qualified (H.Q.) standards in the subject area they teach before they enter the classroom. One measure of H.Q. status is passage of the Praxis II exam. All Nashville Teaching Fellows must take and pass the Praxis II exam in the subject area they are invited to teach, and they must submit passing scores before they begin their Summer Institute. Since the Praxis II exam is only offered a few times a year, candidates will need to take the Praxis on one of the following dates:
November 13, 2010
January 15, 2011
or
March 12, 2011
(Exceptional Education Fellows must take two Praxis exams)
Please wait to hear from our office before registering for any Praxis II exam. More explicit direction as to which exam is appropriate for your candidacy will be provided prior to an interview. However, you can be proactive by keeping these dates available for testing. For more information on the Praxis II test please visit the Praxis website.
Summer Institute
If you are accepted into the 2011 cohort as a Nashville Teaching Fellow, you will attend an intense Summer Institute in Nashville during the summer of 2011. The Summer Institute dates have not been set yet, but they are tentatively scheduled for early-June to early-July. Institute is a full-time commitment from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays, and full attendance is mandatory.
